What is style?

What is style? This question has been bugging me since my boss, out of sheer necessity, told our model/endorser that I was the in-house stylist. I then asked myself, what makes a stylish person? Is it still considered "style" even if your particular look is the same as everyone in the mall?

I later learned that there is a difference between being "in style" and being "stylish". Being in style is when you look good in clothes that are in-season, pulling off that normally daring halter maxi-dress to a visit with your boyfriend's parents, while being stylish is simply being comfortable in your own skin.
The most stylish people I know and admire are people who understand their bodies and take pride in their shape.

Take Beth Ditto for example, the fierce lead singer of band "The Gossip" struts around the stage in metallic lame jumpsuits instead of the flutter-sleeved tops "style" books tell women her size to wear. Sure, flutter-sleeved tops aren't very The Gossip or concert-y but nor is it very Beth Ditto. She wears what she likes and she flaunts what she has.

To quote Jean Cocteu: “Style is a simple way of saying complicated things”. So what is it- style in fashion's sense- you want to tell the world?

Look at me Ma', I'm on Technorati!

Creole's Technorati Profile

Yup, I've finally Technorati. Not that anyone wanted me to join in the first place, but I thought "Hey, what the heck right?" and then I learned this place is pretty awesome, so why not join the awesome internet bandwagon?

(Disclaimer: Creole does not approve of real-life bandwagon joining.)

Beijing Olympics hearts the Vengaboys

I'm watching the 10M Platform Women's finals on TV. The camera passes over the audience, judges look bored as the divers get ready, kids are playing with one of Beijing Olympics' annoyingly cute mascots and that's when I realize: is that the Vengaboys on the background? I listen closely and learn that it's not- but it was a eurotrash beat.

I'm addicted to the Olympics. I must watch at least one event a day.

Events I look forward to:
Football
Gymnastics (ommmggg props and sparkly costumes!)
Diving
Synchronized Swimming (lolz)
--

I just switched to another channel and HOLY CRAP it's prop gymnastics D: D:
I'm torn between diving and gymnastics. Noooo.

Ahem.

Such are my woes. :/

Sauna sauna sauna

Hello internet world, I'm now working. I've left the comforts of UST and this so-called "student life" for a more "mature" "socially-involved" world... of fashion! :D I'm currently a graphic artist for a direct selling company and things are going great, if you don't mind me saying.

But who wants to hear about my work?

No one.

I guessed as much.

I'm typing away at these rare dead in-betweens where work kind of just STOPS because we're waiting for an approval or somesuch. It's deathly hot in our window-less office, sweat is forming on my brow and *ting* I believe it's time to turn us over in this blasted oven-of-an-office. Did I mention I love my job?

I really do. Swear on my Harry Potter books.

*beep*
They finally turned the air conditioning on.

That's basically it. Hurr.

Loves to all. I'll blog again when I have something a bit more interesting to share.

Cheers!

Back then

Fifteen years ago I...
→ was 5! I was studying in Montessori Child Learning center bullying the Little Miss Philippines Champion. She was so scared she refused to go out of her car. I was also called "Big Mouth" by my teachers and I learned I have shitty penmanship and wrote too slow. Did my first solo presentation to parents about shapes and the difference between a circle and a sphere. This was pre-K.

Ten years ago I...
→ was 10! Moved to STC for the 5th grade. Learned that private school girls are the devil in disguise. Met great friends, learned about anime and I was hooked. I also wanted mum to give me a computer "with a CD-ROM and an internet and e-mail".

Five years ago I...
→ was in 3rd year high school. Met the first head over heels love of my life. He inspired me to do great things, great plays and theaterrrr. Cried when he said goodbye. Still think of him up to this day (and his kid. rofl).

Two years ago I...
→ Reached a very awkward time in my last relationship. Got married. Kicked ass in fashion class.

One year ago I...
→ Thesis. New love. New life. New class ;_;

Yesterday I...
→ attended a pre-meeting for the meeting mentioned above. Layouts, layouts and edits. Present designs for approval.

Today I...
→ 2 meetings today! Meetings proved to be productive. Schedules moved. Yay, more time! But that doesn't mean we'll be slacking off anytime soon. >_> Approval of styles and writing e-mails directed to important people are hard! I ventured into men's wear. AHLOVIT.

Tomorrow I...
→ Will be back to layoutting, more meetings. Mock layouts and such. CAN'T SAY MUCH.

Next week I...
→ Important week! It's pretty make or break. I better have a new wardrobe come Monday.

Next year I...
→ will still be working. Hopefully doing more designing. :)

An attempt at being productive

I have nothing much to say or post about except that this is my 60th post on this blog and I'm hella slow. I'm done looking at make-up looks for our photoshoot, (a job *someone* butt him/herself into), so now I blog.

Hello world, how are you?

Honestly, I'm not feeling that great. Confusion is a feeling I do not enjoy reveling in. What do I do? Do i bury it in the back of my closet like Carrie's Westwood wonder? Lost in reference? Go out and watch Sex and the City.

Hopefully, this time, human insistence and will will prevail.

I just hope I'm not giving up because I don't really want to.

Or do I?

...

See? Confusion does not suit someone who wears such high heels.

I miss having a life outside work, eRO and sleep. I miss parties and get togethers. Being silly with a bottle of blueberry vodka in one hand and a frantic wave of a "go away!" in the other.

---
I have a beach trip disguised as a family reunion. This may prove a turning point. I'm growing up so I think I should be allowed to venture to fun spots with Petter as company.

Cheers,
Creole

Brooklyn Pizza is falling down

The other night, struck by boredom and mum's need to drop something of ABS-CBN, she messages me to say she'll pick me up and we'll have dinner out. So I skip over to ABS which was an utter bore and made of cheap, we head over to Tomas Morato in the ridiculous summer rain and pick a small pizza place by the name of Brooklyn Pizza. There were no people inside (compared to Amici which was PACKED), so the quiet atmosphere gave it plus points. We order, we talk and we make fun of certain people and their need to one up other people.

So rain rain rain rain.

And then suddenly the ceiling speakers started leaking, and then the lights, and then suddenly it wasn't dripping, it was POURING. Hello man made waterfalls.

The poor Brooklyn Pizza crew were panicking as they dismantled their computers and covered it while making sure were OK. They ushered us to the cafe next door which started to leak as soon as our pizzas arrived.

We gave them a large tip because we felt sorry.

Welcome back to the blogging world!

RO RO RO your boat!

I'm back playing Raganrok Online in Level Up's (relatively) new free to play server, Valkyrie. I have no qualms about the item mall since I'm technically loaded with free cards (from work). I'm currently playing as a female gunslinger Yoko, named after Gurren Lagann's sexy marksman. She's my favorite doom bitch.

I'm finally getting an installer today so I don't have to spend money to play it. I'd like to thanks Kuya from Zapeedoo for keeping the only unit with the valkyrie patch free for my use.

I wanted to be a handgun user, but I'm finding the rifle-macho thing to be very appealing. For me, of course. besides, there are too many handgun gunslingers out there. `_`

###

Today is graduation picture day! I haven't had my face threaded, so I'll just fix my caveman Carine Roitfeld-like eyebrows myself.

I ♥ her!

###
I've also taken a liking in making bento lunches! I'm always terribly late in class so I don't get to take pictures of my lunch. I manged to take this one though!

In bento: 2 large onigiri balls with nori face and details, plain kornets for the onigiri's hair and ears, cucumber and carrot discs, to lower half of the bento consists of fish crackers, cheese, carrot triangles and 1 lime gelatin. At the center, homemade garlic mayonnaise with shredded carrot and lime rind garnish.

What do you think? ♥♥♥

28.10.07

I feel the need to shoot something.

More on this, later on.

My list is pretty long.

25.10.07

It's been a while.

It's been a while since I posted. How are you all doing?

I understand no one goes to this blog anymore, so I'll plug myself shamelessly on YM and during our geekout.

It's sembreak so there's nothing much to report about.

Well, I have good grades this semester. I was fairly surprised since I was really scared on how it would turn out. It seems that our group got the lowest grade in TV Art. I feel guilty since we're graded not by the technical aspects of the film, but the story. I wrote it and it was a very obvious flop. I enjoyed writing it though.

Hmmmm....

I'm back to playing Sims, except this time it's Sims 2. Gyah it's addicting.

That's it I guess. I'll come back tomorrow and report on our geek out :3 I'm really excited!

Little Miss Sunshine

I know it's old but I just finished watching it and I think it's muy wonderful. :D

In other news...

Yesterday, feeling rather down and in need of familiar and all-fun company, I SMSed 3 of the best girls in the world, Asia, Lyan and Ken, and invited them to an early Mister Kabab dinner. Ken can't make it because she's got a gig and the delightful Lyan offered a better option.

"Creole, let's just hang at Manila Pen."

So we did, after meeting up at Asia's condo, waiting for an hour for a cab that isn't allergic to the word Makati and surrendering to good ol' commuting. It was fun and the afternoon reminded me how much I miss them. I'll post the pictures when I get a hold of them.

I feel better, just thinking about it :)

1.8.07

It's about time

It's about fucking time I updated my blog. Hmmm... where do I start?

Well, I'm ever so busy with school now, but my mind can't seem to grasp that fact. Instead of stressing over everything, I'm chill and very very lazy. Heck, I can do a week without work but I can't stand a day without visiting my Pupe.jp page. The thing about pupe is, you don't just post things and get comments as rewards, you get items for your avatar to prettify it. I swear, it's seriously addicting, even if it's in Japanese. If you're interested, don't sign up just yet! Give me your e-mail and I'll send you an invite, so we can automatically be friends and you get 30 ribbons (pupe currency)! Gaaah.

See what I mean? I should be working on a painting (to be submitted tomorrow) but instead I write down on my dusty blog. Oh shame.

My thesis is going slooow. The deadline for chapter 1 is on the 16th and I haven't done an effing thing. The moment I have my data, I'll start working on it like a madman. You know how hard it is to look for the Philippine's current fashion industry? They're usually just in blogs or in forums. Luckily, I already have a couple of interviews lined up for that very reason. I'm so giddy to announce that I'll be interviewing (even though it's only thru e-mail correspondence; she's ever so busy!) Miss Cecile Zamora van Straten the amazing stylist and designer. Egads! I'm such a fan *_* Next, I'll be interviewing our textile design teacher (haha) who also happens to be the owner of Pink and Blue Soda (say whut) awesome. More on this professor in a bit. I'm also trying ot get a hold of CSB's Dean of Fashion for an interview.

I already have my interview questions and the final draft for my survey questions, so hopefully by tomorrow I can start :)

So much to do. So little motivation~~

Our textile design teacher is new. She graduated with honors from UST (same course) and FIT in NYC. She's kinda has it going for her. The thing is, my class thinks her lectures are boring and unecessary (textile properties, prices and all that chorva) and at first I wanted to swat them but now she's just meh. If it wasn't for the fact that she likes me (let me borrow her 9heads book =0) I'd be "BKAHIUHGLKSGADBHSLKD!!" on her ass. Grawr.

She's cool though, always willing to help out the struggling fashion student. Bless her heart.

###

I really sound like a bitch now, yes? Because I'm quite unhappy. Ate some bad food and I feel like throwing up after every nibble (bulemia? semi-yay?!). No more sisig for me! Also, MY ISSUES ARE COMING BACK PLZ. I'm hatin' on myself. Shit.

Muchos loves to one and all!

Lady Snowflake aka Ruth Creole

You know what's funny? Visiting your old fanfiction.net account and reading your old fan fiction. I read one story and anticipated a rush of embarrassment but I was surprised at how 'OK' I was. I didn't care if I was a good writer, I just did it. Fan fiction then, was my escape. I created loads of worlds that stretched my knowledge of a particular fandom to the limit so I can justify everything I brought about. It was fantastic! I could make my favorite characters dance in my head and, no matter how silly or out of character it was, I enjoyed myself immensely.

Now, whenever I write (fan fiction or some other written form) I have this little monster in my head that pressures me to be good at it. I'm not bad, I'm just all over the place.

Another surprise greeted me. A rather recent review for that one fic. It was dated 2006-07-14 even though it was last updated on 05-22-02. AMAZING.

I wanna get back into writing fics!

Bebii returns

And so do I.

I got reacquainted with my fairly empty Starbucks planner, Bebii, after receiving our calendar of deadlines for thesis. Since I haven't updated for quite a while, let me fill you in.

I'm taking Fashion as my thesis with casual wear focusing on coats and jackets as my subject. Subject details and other such chorva to follow.

If only we had started sooner, the August 16 for the chapter 1 deadline wouldn't be such a B. A bother. Hahah

###
I watch Transformers on the first day, last full show. In that scene where Optimus Prime rips off the roof of the Sector 7 car and Shia LeBouf (my crush) introduces them to the mcAwesome Prime, I had a "Oh gosh, it's my childhood dream!" To be able to have super awesome friends who have your back that instill fear and awe to the hearts of many. I'm pathetic, I know. hahah

I was always bullied as a child because I was 'too sensitive' to their taunts. I was a kid, of course I was sensitive. I'll cry and punch them with my puny white hands (and that's why I learned to punch hard). That's why I'm such a bitch, I'm just defensive. I get hurt easily.

Anyway, back to the Prime Minister of power and awesome, Optimus Prime. If I had a friend like that, made of power and awesome, I'd be untouchable. It would be awesome. Plus, I've always wanted to say that line. "Mr McMeany Pants, meet Mr. McAwesome Kick Ass." There is much victory and raised fists at that sentence.

Please, do not be alarmed. This is still Creole and not her imaginary little sister.

I'm stuck with my old playlist so I need new music.

My Playlist of choice

1. Stranger - Hilary Duff
2. Signal Fire - Snow Patrol
3. Flathead - Fratellis
4. A chuck full of Sarah McLachan
5. This ain't a scene, it's a damn arms race - Fall Out Boy
6. Thanks for the memories- FOB
7. Teenager - My Chemical Romanance

I haven't given this playlist thing much thought though...

Skippy

I've been pretty responsible lately. And I make myself proud.

I've read Anthony Bourdain's laugh-out-loud book 'A Cook's Tour' and now I'm reading the starting pages of Nigel Slater's 'Toast'. I'm discovering my blatant foodieness and I fear (and secretly hope) that I'll end up something like my sister, Marishka, who is in advertising and is an utter foodie. She loves to cook and I love to cook. I'll be hosting my second cooking party (details about the first one in a bit) and I've been craving for things I don't normally crave for. Isaw, grilled livestock (usually pork or chicken) intestine, is great when it's there and when I have my classmates around me seeking a short break from the oil paints and dangerously addictive thinner fumes, but to atcually go to the talipapa, wet market, just for me if quite odd. I even seared them for a bit to make the gumminess just a tad crisp and ate them with chopsticks. I know, what the fuck right?

It's Bourdain's fault!!

###

Last monday, a day before classes started (the usual mass and orientation for the freshies) I conducted a cooking party in hopes of celebrating, for the last time, our summer as students. I e-mailed my class that weekend (because getting permission to go to a dinner party is better than getting permission to batangas) and presented them with this menu:

Appetizers:
Fresh pita pizza points

Main Course:
Inihaw na liempo with mango salsa
Mashed Veg
Herbed and Garlic Rice

Dessert:
Pacenciawich (Pacencia cookies with sweet cream and fruit)
Espresso n' Cream (Vanilla Ice Cream with Brewed Coffee)

Brewed Coffee

The food was good (though some of them didn't turn up as planned) the atmosphere frantic, hot, crazy but incredibly fun and rewarding. I'm quite glad only a handful were able to make it, because the setting is more intimate. There were no private conversations at one edge of the table and no one was left out. I am super duper glad that everyone had fun and are raring for a second round! :D

HOSHIT! I have to prepare a menu!

This is gonna be fun!!

###

So far, so good. I just need faith in my life and I'm set. :) :)

###

Also, I would also like to thank Petter for being absolutely awesome ;D ;D

Lovingly yours,
Creole

P.S.
School has started and Addos always seem to meet up after every class. ILOVEIT!

The madness continues

Hello dear readers/friends! I'm actually here in the office, taoiling away with lighter work translating disjointed chinese long finished and gone (I'm actually quite afraid of it resurfacing in the near future). I missed blogging so very much.

Well, as I said, I'm still working until next wednesday when I finally say "Sayonara!" to my iffy laptop, DSL-connection, orange office and funny officemates and finally let my summer start.

Nothing of great significance has happened between my post... well, excpet for this one thing. AdDos no longer exists at least in it's technical sense. We found out much to our (and our faculty's) surprise, our thesis class will define our section for the entire 4th year. So basically, the CFAD office proved itself to be made of suck and boo. Buuut we all have Addos aline in our hearts and we have each other in our far away sections. This just gives us an excuse to get together and drink for often! :D :D

There's also the passing of Isabella Blow, muse and fashionista extrodinaire. Now, I've never heard of her until my favorite fashion bloggers posted about her death and their devastation so I did a bit of research and oh my goodness am I super insipred! I actually feel sad that I haven't been able to actually follow her life and stuff. I wish I've known her longer because that would give me a real proper excuse to mourn such a genius' death.

Her gorgeous collection of hats and her brave and bold fashion picks has actually nudged me to take abolder step in my fashion chorva. And because of her I've actually started reading other bold fashionista blogs like Diane Pernet. More on Blow and her greatness soon in my fashion blog (Mad Mad Fashion).

Well, I will post more soon because I have to get back to work! :D

Lovingly yours,
Miss Creole

P.S. I love Milk Tea!

Work really is trouble and old issues of insecurity and paranoia resurface.

Or maybe it's just too much coffee.

Yesterday was my dad's Deathday anniversary. It's been 13 years since he's died and we really really miss him. When I remember him my eyes well up and I feel drained. I guess I haven't really paid much attention to him for so long. I really miss my dad.

I didn't have enough money to buy flowers for him yesterday so I'm counting our Monday get together will be a blast. I'm sure it will because everyone is going to be there!

I'm inviting dragging Petter so Leslie can start calling him a winner xD I love it.

###

On better news. Sagar and Marishka are back together! I love this news so much and I'm so happy for the both of them!

###

Wow, this post is really a rollercoaster of emotions.

###

I'm typing happily away in the office because there's no one around. The PD people are somewhere having a meeting and the quietness makes me think better and be more productive.

###

I really miss him too (even though wre just saw each other the other day). The past few days were so draining and all I need a good non-relative hug. Yeah.

I'm also hankering for some serious Kabab pigging out. Mmmm Keema with eggplant.

###

For the first time ina very long time, I am very much broke. I can't even buy a bottle of C2 without thinking hard about it. Seriously!

###

I promise pictures soon. :)

P.S. Does anyone know a good diet pill? One that doesn't have severe side effects like cardiac arrests, an extra head or vagina failure? I really want to loose weight. For reals.
